How do I find the trends in my niche?

Short answer

A trend is a style of video that several channels in your niche are suddenly doing well with. You find it by looking at what small channels are getting big views on right now, and by noticing which words repeat in their titles.

Three checks, once a week: the last 30 days of outliers sorted by multiplier, the recent titles of 20 to 30 channels like yours, and YouTube autocomplete for your main topic. When the same pattern shows up in two of the three, it is a trend.

Why small channels are the trend signal, not big ones

A big channel can make almost any video do well, because its subscribers show up regardless. That tells you about the channel, not the topic. A small channel that suddenly gets ten times its normal views got them from strangers, and strangers only click on a promise they want right now. When three small channels get that lift with the same kind of title in the same month, the audience is telling you what it wants this month.

The routine below sorts by outlier multiplier, not raw views. Raw views find the biggest channels. Multipliers find the videos that outran their channel, which is where trends show first.

Do this once a week, about 15 minutes

1. Search your niche in OutlierKit and filter to the last 30 days. Sort by outlier score, which is the multiplier on each card. The top 10 videos are what is working right now. Note the channel sizes, and note any title words that repeat.
2. Make a list of 20 to 30 channels like yours with the similar-channels tool. Look at each one's last five videos. Write down any words that keep showing up in the titles across several channels. The watchlist post goes deeper on this step, including the three-channel rule.
3. Type your main topic into YouTube search and note what autocomplete suggests. Those are things people are typing this week. Pair this with keyword research to see which suggestions carry real monthly volume; the keyword research guide covers how.

Then apply what you found to your next title. One trend phrase, applied to your own subject, in your own voice. You do not have to chase all of them. One a week is enough to stay current.

What the example shows: three meditation channels, two patterns

On 4 September 2026 the best-performing meditation videos shared two patterns. One is the 10-minute morning meditation: Stillness Meditation Space (1,200 subscribers) got 14.8 times its normal with a 10-minute morning gratitude video, and The Zen Flow (583 subscribers) got 8.6 times with a 10-minute morning meditation for calm focus. The other is a sleep talk-down that names a feeling: The Sleep Whisperer (10,800 subscribers) got 16.4 times its normal with "Fall Asleep Fast | Unity Sleep Talk Down (Anxiety Relief)".

Three channels between 583 and 10,800 subscribers, all getting 8 to 16 times their usual views, with two repeating title shapes between them. That is a trend by the definition above. There was also a search signal that week: "meditation for stress management" was being searched more than "meditation for sleep", about 24,000 versus 13,000 a month. So stress is the word to put in the next title.

Three more meditation outliers with the same two patterns

I pulled the meditation outliers again on 7 September 2026. Three more small channels fit the same two patterns.

vice ieva, with 3,440 subscribers, got 18,100 views on a "10 Minute Meditation" for sleep, 46.9 times its normal. Sleeping Melody, with 6,140 subscribers, got 90,000 views on "SLEEP WELL IN 10 MINUTES", which names stress, anxiety, and depression in the title, 10 times normal. Cutic Vidiq, with 286 subscribers, got 1,300 views on a sleep meditation that names stress and anxiety, 5.4 times normal. Six channels between 286 and 10,800 subscribers, and every title has either "10 minute" or a named feeling, or both.

What a trend is not

• One big video on one channel. That is a hit. It might be the start of a trend, so note it, but do not build on it until a second and third channel confirm it.
• A big channel's normal output. A million-subscriber channel getting a million views is Tuesday. Filter to channels near your size, or sort by multiplier, so those do not crowd the list.
• Which niche is hot right now. That is a different question, answered by the trending niches report with a dated hit-rate table, and by the niches guide for the evergreen picture. This page assumes you already have a niche and want to know what is moving inside it.
